The Governor of Al-Baha Region, Prince Dr. Hussam bin Saud bin Abdulaziz,
announced the designation of Al-Baha City as a Disability-Friendly City for the
year 2026, following its receipt of international accreditation from the World
Disability Union.
This came during a meeting at his office in the Emirate with the Mayor of
Al-Baha Region, Dr. Ali Al-Sawat, who briefed him on the details of the city’s
achievement of this international accreditation, as well as the progress made
in preparing the urban environment, humanizing the city, and enhancing
universal accessibility within Al-Baha.
The Governor emphasized that this achievement reflects the leadership’s
commitment to empowering persons with disabilities and improving quality of
life. It also demonstrates the integration of efforts among various entities to
achieve comprehensive development goals. He highlighted the importance of
continuing to develop services and specialized initiatives that contribute to
enhancing quality of life, improving the efficiency of the urban environment,
and enabling persons with disabilities to fully benefit from services and
facilities across all cities in the Al-Baha Region.
He further stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among entities
and strengthening qualitative initiatives that reinforce the region’s position
as a tourist destination, with its model cities being disability-friendly at
the international level.
It is worth noting that the World Disability Union is an international
organization concerned with empowering persons with disabilities, promoting
universal accessibility standards, and granting international accreditation
certificates to qualified cities based on comprehensive evaluation criteria.
